What do you value most about the Mercure Vienna Hotel?
Very friendly and well located hotel but the new rooms are disappointing and not good value for money
I stayed at the Mercure Wayne City around the same time last year on the same business trip, the location is very convenient and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. After booking I was told there was work going on, and that was true, but the noise level wasn't a problem, even at unsociable times (appreciate the honesty of being warned). The plastic sheets in the corridors outside the rooms and the tapes around the door fittings inside the rooms are a little ugly, but nothing special. The breakfast is very good, varied and of high quality.
I don't like to be pessimistic, but the simple truth is that new rooms are disappointing. They were about half the size of the original room and very dark (dark paint in half the room and no overhead lighting) with only an open wardrobe and a small wardrobe. Also the bathroom is smaller than the previous room, but everything works. My room was very hot for a few days and the wall air conditioner struggled to keep the temperature below 22C - it was April and I was afraid it would be hot in the summer. Basically, I think the hotel split the originally nice, spacious rooms in two to double the capacity. Unfortunately, the prices have also risen significantly, so the average nightly price I paid last year was almost 50% higher, but the room felt 50% smaller. I'm just a little sad that a year ago this hotel was great value for money, but this time my colleagues stayed in other hotels with better rooms and better prices. The Mercure is fine - just disappointing compared to what it used to be. Next time I might look elsewhere.
